Syncplify Server!'s logical structure

Syncplify Server! implements a very flexible logical structure, which can be visually summarized with the chart here below:

Key concepts

The key concepts that anyone willing to deploy a Syncplify Server! instance must understand are:

  • There can be multiple SuperAdmins who use the SuperAdmin UI to create one or more Virtual Sites (depending on the license you own)
  • Each Virtual Site can have one or more Administrators (or Admins)
  • Each Admin uses the Admin UI to configure the day-to-day operational settings of the specific Virtual Site they manage
  • All Virtual Sites and Admins can only be created by a SuperAdmin
  • Virtual Sites can only be managed (administered) by an Admin (SuperAdmins cannot manage Virtual Sites)

Understanding the logical structure here above naturally leads to the following inferences and recommendations:

  • It's good to have at least two SuperAdmin profiles assigned to different individuals, so if one loses/forgets their credentials the other one can still log into the SuperAdmin UI and reset them
  • If an Admin loses/forgets their password, a SuperAdmin can reset it or create a new Admin profile in/for the specific Virtual Site in question
